Water Level Could Rise on the New River

  • Increased energy demand may mean rise in New River water level (WVVA-TV) -   Anyone recreating on the New River in the area is being cautioned about rising water levels starting Wednesday. AEP announced that because of expected extreme temperatures, it may need to increase power generation at its hydroelectric plant at Claytor Lake. That means water levels downstream, which includes Giles County and into West Virginia, on the New River could rise 2 feet in a matter of minutes.
