WV Residents Urged to Submit Flood Damage Surveys

CHARLESTON, W.Va. — The West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD) is asking residents and business owners to submit flood damage surveys to help officials assess the full impact of the Feb. 15-16 flood event. The surveys are not applications for assistance but provide critical data to help identify the hardest-hit areas and support recovery efforts.

“Our survey is a vital tool that helps us quickly assess the damage in affected counties. It also gives our federal partners a clearer picture of the devastation and allows us to communicate immediate needs to our voluntary agency partners. The more information we gather, the better we can understand the needs of our communities in near real time—an invaluable asset in recovery efforts," said Ginger Barnett, chief of Mitigation and Recovery at the West Virginia Emergency Management Division.

Providing details about structural damage, water levels, and property losses will help state officials gain a clearer understanding of the overall impact.

The data collected will be used to support potential requests for federal assistance, guide mitigation efforts, and improve future emergency planning.
