Your pets are an important member of your family, so while you are making your emergency plans and kit for your family, remember to include your pets!June is Pet Prep Month - cropped.jpg

Create a Pet Emergency kit that includes all their basic needs:

  • Water & Food
  • Feeding Bowls
  • Sanitation items, like litter, scooper, waste bags, wipes.
  • Medicines
  • Toys
  • Blankets/towels
  • ID tags
  • Grooming items
  • Vaccination information
  • Other items that they might need if you should have to leave your home.

Plan for Shelter & Lodging

Emergency shelters may not allow animals. In case you must evacuate, make sure to have a plan in place of where you can take your pets. So, before a disaster strikes:

  • Pre-identify pet-friendly lodging or shelters.  
  • Develop a buddy system. Pre-identify family, neighbors or friends that would be available to care for or evacuate your pets if you are unable to do so.

Pet Identification

It's important to create a Pet ID before a disaster strikes. This way, if you get separated from your pet, you will have an easier time locating them. Here are some ways to

 consider:

  • Microchip them with their name, your name and contact information.
      • Take a selfie with your pet and store it in your emergency kit and one in your mobile device.
