Commit to volunteering this year. According to Volunteer West Virginia, the state has over 360,000 volunteers who contribute 39 million hours of service each year. You could help increase those numbers, and thanks to the Mercer County Volunteer Center, finding local opportunities to give back is easy.

Visit www.volunteerwv.org. The search can be very personalized, matching you to the best volunteer opportunity for your location, interests or capabilities.

“What’s nice about volunteering is you’re helping build a stronger community, but it also makes you feel good too. Sometimes people don’t want to make New Year’s Resolutions like I’m going to work out, I’m going to diet… they actually want to do something that helps people in the community, this is a really good way,” said Kathrn Kandas, Program Director of Community Connections, Inc.

Unlike other volunteer opportunities that may be tough to stick with, many opportunities to volunteer can be catered to your schedule.
