Prepare for Spring Flooding

3/15/2010
With the recent heavy snowfall across much of West Virginia, the approaching spring season has turned our attention to the potential for flooding.  The NWS offices that serve West Virginia recognize that the flood threat this spring will be higher than in previous years with the deep snow cover, especially across the northern and eastern sections of the state.

In order to increase the public's awareness of this and other spring/summer weather threats, Governor Manchin will be declaring the week of February 28 - March 6 as West Virginia Hazardous Weather Awareness Week.  Governor Manchin is tentatively scheduled to present the proclamation at 1030am on Thursday March 4.  The NWS, in conjunction with WV DHSEM and WV Citizen Corps, will issue information throughout that week about severe weather and flooding in West Virginia.
