Governor Tomblin's Request for Registration Deadline Extension Granted by FEMA

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (August 16, 2016) – Governor Earl Ray Tomblin today announced that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has granted his request for a two-week extension for residents affected by the June flooding to apply for individual assistance. The last day to apply for this direct federal aid is now Wednesday, September 7.

Eligible residents must live in one of the federal disaster-declared counties, which are: Clay, Fayette, Greenbrier, Jackson, Kanawha, Lincoln, Monroe, Nicholas, Pocahontas, Roane, Summers and Webster.

“I am grateful that FEMA has, once again, recognized the devastating impact of this flooding on West Virginians,” Gov. Tomblin said. “Federal assistance has already reached thousands of our residents as they rebuild homes and lives. By extending the timeframe those affected by the flooding have to register with FEMA, we are allowing even more families in need to access this support as communities continue on the path toward long-term recovery.”

To register with FEMA, call 800-621-3362, visit www.DisasterAssistance.gov or visit your nearest Disaster Recovery Center. To locate a Disaster Recovery Center near you, call 800-621-3362 or visit www.fema.gov/drc.

Individual assistance grants through FEMA may cover expenses including housing assistance for rentals, repairs or direct temporary housing; disaster-related medical or child care assistance; and, legal services for insurance claims, home repairs or legal papers lost in the flooding. For qualifying households, FEMA may cover losses insurance does not.

September 7 also is the new deadline for applications for the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) low-interest disaster loans, which support small businesses, renters, homeowners and private non-profits for losses not covered by insurance or other federal aid. To apply for a low-interest disaster loan, applicants must first register with FEMA.
