ReadyWV Encourages Older Americans to be Prepared for Emergencies

Each May, the nation celebrates Older Americans Month . This year, the focus is on injury prevention with the theme “Safe Today. Healthy Tomorrow.” By taking control of their safety, Older Americans can live longer, healthier lives. ReadyWV is following Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the Ready Campaign to support this message and help Older Americans to start preparing for emergencies before they happen.

ReadyWV is encouraging Older Americans to take commonsense measures and start preparing for emergencies before they happen. Family, friends and caretakers can help them build a kit, make a plan, and be informed of the hazards that may impact them. Simple steps can be taken now to help ensure all needs are met following a disaster.

More information can be found at Ready.gov/seniors  Information on the different types of hazards is available at Ready.gov or the Spanish-language web site Listo.gov.
